Beyond the window, idle dog days beckon, yet she resists. Summer’s best relished after weathering winter’s labors-and the only fortune worse than lack of foresight, is being left out in the cold.

Cheers to enduring the winter.
Your words bring up the line, “now is the winter of our discontent…”
Tina, this winter has been tough. Not so much because of weather, but because of life. The line you quoted is so apt:) Thanks for commenting!
So true. Luckily, I now live somewhere warm year round. ^_^v
Renada, that sounds nice! We haven’t seen the sun here for weeks. It’s cold and depressing!
Beautifully done, Valerie! Absolutely true and besides that I adore the delicious words you’ve incorporated.
Hope all is well in your world. :))
Thanks, dear friend. I wasn’t sure of this. It felt heavy and awkward and I deleted it from the link up twice, before letting it ride. One of my dogs died last Friday, and my words have been at a loss since. But you, as usual, give me sunshine:) xx
Being left out in the cold really resonates with me right now, Valerie. Your words, as usual, reach into my heart.
You aren’t left out in the cold here, sweet M. Hugs-and I’m sending you warmth and hope:) xoxoxo
Thank you for the hugs, warmth and hope. I feel them. oxox.
Such a beautiful reflection, Valerie! I totally get the prudent tone of this (by which I always try to live).
In my current world, oddly enough, summer is the busy season, with the cold and dark winter giving me a chance to tuck my feet up and read, rather than till and water and weed : ) #age
Thanks Kymm! In my youth I didn’t give much thought to being prudent, but I think I’ve at least brought Amy up to see the bigger picture and to realize that it’s important to have goals and then stay the course to achieve them. And yes, to the rest that winter brings! 🙂 xx
Fantastic last sentence.
Thank you so much, AC!! I appreciate that:)
Your writing is getting shorter, but it still has a punch. I liked this very much and you got it all in 33 words. Impressive.
I read the comments and I wish for you softer winter days. A blogging friend recently put up this quote at her site. It seems right for you: “In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.” – Albert Camus
Your summer is there…just be patient with yourself and life:~)
Eloquently written. A provoking take on the image. “..the only fortune worse than lack of foresight…”
I don’t know why, but I really, really loved the phrase ‘summer’s best relished’. LM x
Perfectly expressed and so true,Val!Like the “Grasshopper and the ant”fable:-)
This is awesome, Valerie! So much truth in these words. I wish I’d known you when I was younger! 😉
Wisdom and wonderful writing. Is there a better combination? May she keep “resisting”. Thanks for linking up!
Great wisdom and well expressed.
Alas, in our part of the world we are praying for a winter storm.
Love it!
Very prudent words throughout. I am glad that you opted to link up and let us enjoy your good work. Very sorry for the loss of your family member. Pets are rarely just animals. 😦
This is just lovely, Valerie! I didn’t find it heavy or awkward – I found it lush. It’s the kind of thing I really love reading. The alliteration makes me want to read it out loud. Great job.
Most excellent, I really like this piece and what it says.
